Here are the results of my research trip today. I found nine cowboy hats on the end of two aisles in the auto department of a nearby Wal-Mart. They were hung on four plastic strips that can accommodate 12 items each, so I assume 48 hats were originally put out. I have no idea how long they had been on display before I first noticed them. They were priced at $2.97 each.

Yesterday, there were also some hats in the regular air freshener section of the auto department. Today these were all gone. I looked and found one of the racks labelled "Dreamcatcher scents," but it was empty. I assume it was the AdHatter dreamcatcher, but don't know for sure. They were priced at $3.97.

From the looks of things here in San Antonio, these things sell when they get display space. I don't know if Wal-Mart thinks the same way, or if they were just prominently displayed on the end of the aisles because they were new product. It's my own opinion that they would probably move well if they were displayed next to the checkout counter, too.

It goes without saying that Wal-Mart serves a huge market.

Hang on to your hats, folks!
