Why would Roman soldiers be so angry with Jesus? What did they care about his Jesus's alleged blasphemy and opposition to the priestly party.

I rather doubt that they did care. Even Pilot did not WANT to crucify Jesus, but had him flogged, none the less.(wonder why?)Isaiah 53: 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
But they are Roman soldiers and as such I see nothing indicating they had any great love for the Jews. And if it was Barabbas rather than Jesus, I think he would have received the same treatment, would he have not? Maybe not as severe, but what did they care, the prisoner was going to be killed anyway.

Matt. 27:
27 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him.
28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,
29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said.
30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.
31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

Because Jesus said He was the King of the Jews, I think it would have been rather natural for the governers soldiers to mock him, since after all He was calling himself a King. And as I said before, I would bet that once any prisoner was turned over to the soldiers to be crucified they would not be shown much mercy, you think?
