Small businesses around the country are now being bombarded with upgrade offers from their software suppliers that say that in order to assure Y2K compatibility they will have to upgrade their software, and in most cases they will need new hardware as well since the old hardware is too slow. And since small business tends to procrastinate, mosts sales to small business have not yet occurred.

There will definitely be an increase in hardware sales to small business as a result of Y2K. I think that as 1999 rolls along many consumers with older computers will buy new computers as well because they don't have a clue what Y2K means to them and they want to be safe. On the other hand, I think 2000 will be an unusually weak year for sales to these two markets since everyone who is even thinking of upgrading will upgrade in 1999.
