P.M.Freedman,

The article makes too much sense. I have also seen speculation that the internet stocks are history next year. Too high with no earnings. Amazon losing money with every sale because they don't know how to distribute product. (I can't believe Amazon loses money filling an order. I can believe they are not doing it in the best economic fashion.)

I am glad Compaq was not mentioned in the article. I don't think Compaq is overvalued at this point, and the stock should not take a big hit if the high flyers start seeing strong profit taking.

One thing that might contribute to profit taking is the one year holding period for capital gains. If I had purchased any of those stocks last December, or January, I would want to sell them this January. After all I got in early, I want to get out early and enjoy the reduced tax rate. Now I can reinvest in another stock with a good growth potential. I might also want to protect my great gains by being a little more conservative this time.

Na!! I understand the article and it makes too much sense. Logic is not where it is at. There is a new logic and I'm not sure what it is yet.
