2 person game support...?

I tried this demo and was instantly hooked. I can't agree more with the sentiment that established "universes" that exist via Hollywood of literary properties offer an established base of potential customers.

I have a question for hardware technophiles- some of the advantages of game consoles over PC's are the following:

1) Ease of set up and reliability.

2) Initial cost- this is why an add-on card should be priced at or below game consoles, for the mass market.

3) Ability for 2 players to participate simultaneously, without a modem or network and their associated problems.

So, my question is directed at #3- is it possible to make an input device that allows 2 people to play a PC game simultaneously, in front of the same monitor? I assume that there are significant hurdles to making one, or one would already exist, but you never know. If the hurdles are only so high, then it would make sense for 3DFX to look into this in some way. As long as the company is trying to vertically integrate, if they can come up with the technology that will allow simultaneous 2 person playing, why not enter the input market as well?
