Rick, We were all new to this game once. Sometimes I think I still am. Uncovered short: Shorter borrows stock and sells it. Covered short: Shorter has sold borrowed stock, now buys back stock (covers) to cover the original sold stock. Stocks tend to move on rumour or anticipation of positive news, + 100 other reasons including short covering. I am not sure how these undeclared short positions work. Probably related to brokers selling your stock without you knowing it. All the best.
