Our own Jorj X, Mr Wholesome etc - has made the Dow Jones Newswire!
See bottom paragraph.

I actually made three predictions (per the contest rules). For the record, I don't believe that any of my three scenarios will occur. However, I am convinced that the fourth prediction listed here has some merit though the date is premature.

1) My prediction is that the cause of the selloff will be widespread credit card fraud due to ineffective security measures by the internet commerce sites. The date....Feb 1, 1999.

2) Sell-off will start on March 22, 1999 (just a WAG).

The cause will be a major failure in the network infrastructure (such as a Network Access Point (but not limited to)) which will in effect cause the internet to slow down to a point that it is not practical to use for e-commerce, e-trading, e-auctioning or viewing e-porn.

Bonus prediction: The recovery will happen within 2 weeks of the fall as the internet stock trading junkies will need a fix and they will drive the internet stocks to new highs immediately.

3) January 13, 1999.
Cause: When it is discovered that there is a virus on e-commerce sites that corrupts transactions and subsequently causes mis-billings, mis-shipments, false trade confirmations, missed trades etc....

1) The cause will be when usage based billing is implemented by service providers for internet traffic on a per packet basis. This will be precluded by tariffing laws being applied to packet networks. May 3, 1999
