It depends.

There are different limitations for every state. So in one state it might be 1 year for libel, and in the next state it might be 2 years.

That is one of many reasons why the jurisdiction question can be so important. You may want to sue in one state because the statute allows you to sue while in another state the statute may have already expired. I would think that most suits would probably be filed well within the limtation time, though.
