Dear Hal,
The Y2K worry is indeed a worry to be worried about as far as worrisome worries go. Wall Street has ignored this worry so far, and, IMO, there is still plenty of time to make big money in Internet and other stocks.
Gold is seemingly dead -- to be used as pinky rings only. I think Bre-X killed the sector.
Anyway, Hal, you are not crazy. You are simply having a paranoid schizoid embolism. It may make you feel like you are someone else, lost in a new world, and trying to get to Mars in order to free yourself. Feel up in your nostrils and see if you are being tracked by a round, metallic homing device. If so, pull it out, and you should feel much better. If not, sit on your gold if that causes you less stress -- stress can kill you. If you can handle it, check out a few stocks and enjoy the ride. I personally like (this is no recommendation, however) GEEK (MM current favorite - mini-AOL), CUST (tremendous plan), CDNW (Time Warner), CDWI (great CD's), DWEB (undiscovered), MLRE (big as EBAY), and several others. Remember, if not owning stocks causes you as much stress as owning them, then flip a coin and take it easy with your decision. Remember, que sera, sera.
I remain,
SOROS
