You are correct. The cost of removable flash memory needs to come down. I would like to see point-and-shoot digital cameras with megapixel capacity under $300 and 2 megapixel SLR cameras for under $500 with removalbe flash prices of $1.00/MB. Then sales will really take off.

I personally would not pay $48 for a 8 MB MMC card. (What does it cost to make a card such as MMC anyway? They look almost as cheap as the black tortilla known as SmartMedia.)

I still see SmartMedia as a bigger threat than Clik! for reasons that many people have already pointed out.

The double density (2 bits/cell) technology cannot be used for digital photography because of difficulties with write speed. That was in a press release about 3 months ago if I recall correctly.
