The whole industry hates Intel. Intel has used devious schemes to kill competitors and screwed OEMs at their own will. Every company including Microsoft wants AMD to succeed. AMD success meant the end of Intel ruthless monopoly. Even if Intel is selling CeleronA-400MHz for $50 OEMS will still support AMD just to keep competition alive. Compaq is just one of AMD supporter. The other big heavyweight is IBM. Acer, HP, NEC/Packard Bell, and Fujitsu are the others. Gateway is also a supporter of AMD. The only one that is loyal to Intel is DELL but that won't last soon. AMD has proven that they can design CPU as good or even better than Intel. Intel thought socket 7 was dead and there was no way to improve the performance. Guess what K6-3 on socket 7 is better than PII on slot 1 clock for clock. AMD invented 3DNOW and now Intel copied AMD 6 months later and called it KNI as if it was Intel invention. Intel thought Slot 1 was smart but now say that socket 370 is a better idea. Guess what buddy? Intel is not invincible. The big Intel pot has shown some cracks. K7 and K6-3 will be the final blow to that pot. I guess Intel's failure depends heavily on how well they can continue to screw more OEMs and using their marketing force to create new products on old revamped technology. Maxwell
