Nope. Read The Flounder though. Did not like it as much as The Tin Drum, sometimes Grass can hit you over the head with the same joke too much. FYI, I was a dual major in college, German Lit and Petroleum Geology, so I read The Tin Drum in German. Afterwards I read it in English so I could actually understand it.

I have seen most of Weir's movies, and I did particularly like The Last Wave. Among Aussie favorites was also My Brilliant Career.

I did not see Shanghai Triad, I too found the prospect of yet another depressing Chinese film a bit much. I have been to China 18 times and there has been a lot there to be depressed about.
