Golman is a market maker symbol is GSCO and they will often times support a stock directly through thier trading Dept in NY which is where their market making activities are base..

There are less than 511 Market Makers in the US...Total and they determine the bid/ask in 62,000 differnt positions..Some frims may make hundreds of markets, I made about 300 and others like tSCO may make 5 or 6000 markets..Market makers can pick up and drop markets without notice and can move in and out of any stock they choose.,
