sometimes, one sentence posts are more informative and valuable than a run on post that usually never gets read in its' entirety.
Further more, even if people waste their time reading such a lengthy post, the meaning is likely lost, and the reader finds him/her self asking what the hell the poster is talking about in the first place, what was the original intention of such a post, and was it really worth the time spent on reading the full message.
There are a number of posters here that post valuable one word or one sentence posts, and they know how to get to the point at hand in few words. So you don't have to go through the whole post and try to filter out the gibberish to determine the important meaning in such a long post(if in fact there is indeed anything important there to begin). When a post becomes redundant, it loses its meaning, and most people don't want to waste their valuable time reading such nonsense. Especially during the trading day when time isn't cheap.
Speaking of cheap, I have noticed that there is a lot of cheap chatter in the evenings and on the weekends, this may be fine if one has no life, or frequently neglects the life he/she has, as well as the duties to said life. This in return lowers the quality of said posters said life, and suffers his life/family to a potential harmful degree. On top of all that, a run on poster gets a reputation for such nonsense posting and becomes ignored by many of his fellow SIers. This results in not being read, and even if there was some value to the content to a particular post in his daily posting, it will not be read, and he/she will continue to wallow in the depths of nada.
SO I say to all those who post one word or one sentences; keep on keeping on because those of few words are in most cases more informed and informative than such postings or rantings of a mad man.
This doesn't even touch on the fact that frequently when someone posts a long post that they often go off on tangents, and then there may exist multiple meanings, one of which may be that the author may just like to see his/her words in print, and then that is the true meaning of the post, and he has succeeded in wasting much time of many people.
Let's say a particular post takes 3 minutes to read, and it is read by 30 people who spend a total of 90 minutes reading that post. Now we have a significant amount of the work day wasted on gibberish. I like to go on the $100 an hour rate. SO now a post that takes 3 minutes to read by 30 people comes to a total of some $150 and that is dinner, shoes for the kids, and a bottle of wine. I don't have that kind of time to waste, or money either. What the hell was I talking about? Oh yeah, it's snowing here, we had a white christmas, Clinton sucks, the world is a criminal place at times, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you get what you pay for, an eye for an eye....everyone is blind. Children are hungry. That $150 could feed about 200 children for 2 days, the millennium is coming next year. And people are already making reservations for the cool places to be, and if you procrastinate, you will lose.
