You're certainly correct about the notion of censure. The Dems obviously view a censure vote as a move in support of Clinton. Of course, it's the same "punishment" they've been using on each other for years. It's just their way of saying "We officially state that you did a bad thing."
..He going to get away with this.
God I hope not. Too many people just don't seem to understand the dangerous precedent that would set. Regardless of who started it, or why, or anything else, the President of the United States lied under oath! Right now as I type this our liberty hangs in the balance. If our leaders are exempt from the laws that we are subject to, then we have no way to defend ourselves from tyranny. One of the basic things that has made America what it is is that we are (or at least were) all subject to the same laws. Contrast this with countries where the leaders, simply by dint of their positions, are exempted from obeying the laws the general population have to obey. You know: China, the old Soviet Union, Haiti under the Duvaliers, Iraq, the Philippines under Marcos, N. Korea, etc., etc.. Giving other people control over our lives is a questionable thing at best, but given the ignorance of most people it's probably necessary. But giving those same people that control with no legal restraints is frighteningly stupid. And dangerous. |
