Mike, is "A Thousand Acres" a recent film? I am not familiar with it. I must say that crying in theatres is fairly common, at least in San Francisco, even by men. When we went to see "Dancing at Lughnasa" on Christmas so many men were crying that they drowned out the women. Everyone sat there for several minutes waiting for all the credits to roll by while they composed themselves.

I saw "Terms of Endearment" again last night. The part where Debra Winger's character says goodbye to her children is really hard for me to watch, because I can imagine having to do the same thing. I suppose we are more likely to cry at movies if there is something personal about the situation to which we can relate.

There are some new, very predatory germs around. What is that bacteria that eats flesh, for example? I don't remember it from my childhood, for sure. Even though most of us recover fine from minor wounds, I think under the circumstances that it is always better to use some antiseptic and keep a bandage on the area until the would heals somewhat. Of course, a bandage that is too tight can result in its own infectious process.
