For all you numbers fans out there - here are some numbers to stare
at. I am trying to work on a model that might estimate how the
converted shares hit the market place. Here I have just started with
a basic table of activity per month from Nasdaqtrader.com including
the MPS (market participants buying and selling, ECNs (electronic
communication networks), ECNs%, Total Volume/Month Long and Short.

Month MPS ECNs ECN% Total Vol Short Vol

NOV 29 6 4 10412989 1868935
OCT 27 5 2.1 6813083 2259683
SEPT 22 5 6 7927130 1697322
AUG 23 4 1.6 6549589 1386383
JULY 26 3 1 5243546 850834
JUNE 27 3 1 4785753 708320
MAY 30 4 3 1821887 583210
APRIL 24 5 1 2360573 432051
MARCH 29 4 2 4537066 443264
FEB 29 2 1 3500494 400853
JAN 25 3 1 2695909 400462
DEC97 34 3 0.6 3443486 453868

I figured that the ECN activity might be a measure of day trader
interest, but as you can see it is a small fraction of the total
activity (I suppose I should check out this theory with a true
internet stock). I have also run an SPLOM (Scatterplot Matrix)of
these variables and the most robust correlations are obvious from the
tables (e.g. short volume vs. total volume).
