Patrick, the friend from Newark was black. That's why it was a joke.

As for response times on SI, they have been going berserk. One has to wonder how many people who are trying to conduct a timely discussion or engage in snappy repartee are moving off the threads to e-mail, ICQ, and the like. An idea for a thread--how many have taken their interactions elsewhere because it started to take too long?

You very well may be a better person for having experienced the sixties in your youth. I know I am. (And I still have my love beads to prove I was there!)
