Now the VTAR © stocks:
FOR December 28th, 1998
Barnes & Noble [BKS-35 1/2] + 1 1/16. LEAN INTO THIS STOCK. Average up. You may buy call options. This is not the end of a trend; it is the beginning of one. [Always opinion, correct?]. Get this stock done and get it into the portfolio. Go buy it. Now get it done, particularly if you have been spending an inordinate amount of time in the mall at Victoria's Secret, like me. Now back to work! [I realize man cannot live on profits alone…I know]. What are those weird things that…well, never mind.
Above chart is courtesy of www.iqc.com
Amazon.com [AMZN-324 13/16] we now have a running profit of 196 points on our investment of $126 3/4, for a running profit of over 250% for a month and we have never wavered in our strong buy recommendation. However, we are going to take some money off the table here. Sell AMZN on a trading basis. We have lowered our recommendation on Bloomberg from "Strong Buy" to "Buy." A clear profit of over 200 points
EBay [EBAY-286] we took EBAY off the table in our 12/23/98 letter for a 100 point profit in a week. Remember, if I catch you people in Wal-Mart there is going to be big trouble. It's Neiman-Marcus for you. Wal-Mart, indeed! You are not even to buy toilet tissue there…Got it? You are to send out for toilet tissue...toilet tissue is just something you just don't get involved with anymore
I was speaking with my local Rolls dealer and when I asked him what happens when the Rolls breaks down, he informed me that my Rolls will never "break down." He said, that there are times when "…it may fail to 'proceed,' but 'break down?' Not hardly." I feel a lot more comfortable now, don't you? [I like the salespeople in there...they all assume that you must already have a Rolls, of course…well, of course]. It's a lot better feeling than a few years ago when I went into a Ford dealer and the first thing out of the salesperson's mouth was, "Is that your piece of shit blocking the crosswalk?" He skipped the last class at Dale Carnegie, I guess.
America On-Line [AOL-136 5/8]. Traders may take profits as the morons buy this stock because of the movement to the S & P 500. What a great stock for us. Again, the same rationale as above.
UBID [UBID-121 5/8] off 66 3/8. The writer has been getting a lot of press because of our VTAR © "buy" recommendation on Bloomberg at 33 15/16 and our sell at $154 all within a week. But this kind of trading is what makes it possible for you to kiss Wal-Mart good-bye forever. Fair warning...I am not going to repeat these sell recommendations, so don't get used to them. If you think you missed one, email me.
Sotheby's Holdings [BID-38] we have over a 50% profit in this think in less than 60 days. It is far from over. Lean into it. Buy some more. I told you when to get off UBID, AMZN and AOL did I not? You might get one chance to buy under $35. We have been on this since the low $20 and we are not close to finishing with it yet. NOT CLOSE! VTAR © DOES NOT FOOL AROUND DOES IT?

Schwab/Chuck [SCH-60 3/8] + 2 9/16. Same as the 23rd newsletter: "Stay long…. Just stay."
Micron Electronics [MUEI-18 1/4] let's get our money back. Management keep shooting themselves in the foot. I am not going to battle them and the market.
IBM [187 15/15] + 2 1/5/16 from Friday. Top not yet in sight. Stay.
Realnetworks [RNWK-40 1/2] had a nice blast to the upside and we are cooking. The high was about $47 and we strongly urge purchases on the break here of $40. Get it done.
Pharmacia & Upjohn [PNU-54 5/8] accumulate
Navarre [NAVR=11 9/16] recommended on Friday intra-newsletter report at just under $10. Sorry, that's the way it goes. Still a big buy. Navarre's 'NetRadio" allows millions of visitors to listen to music on-line from over 150 audio channels and to purchase audio CD's on-line. Net-Radio has gained to over 20,000,000 page-views per month and 3 million visitors/month. This same technology is used on a wholesale basis NAVR sells software and CD-ROM titles through its websites and has, since 1997, undergone measurable financial improvements in its balance sheet and expects that NetRadio, the first only Internet-only radio network, will be offered as an IPO in 1999. An announcement was made to this effect on November 30th. To date NetRadio has not contributed to the parent and has been a measurable cost drain as we would expect in the launch phase of this technology. We suggest that you visit their website at www.netradio.net, www.softwarepoint.com, www.cdpoint.com and www.navarre.com. NAVR will begin sales of DVD's in 1999 ["Digital Versatile Disk]. There are a little over 13 million shares outstanding [not a lot considering the overall promise of the business plan]. Losses continue, but capital structure is acceptable. The company is in New Hope, MN and these people have to work hard just to keep warm.
