PILOT PLANT FACILITY ACQUIRED FOR CHILE GOLD PROJECT

NP Energy Corp. is pleased to announce that development work is beginning on the
Company's Andacollo gold properties in Chile. Management has accepted the
invitation of property owners in the area to enter into an association of interests to
reactivate and reopen the Churumata gold ore mill at the existing facilities in the
Andacollo. High grade ore will be supplied from the surrounding , carefully selected
properties under contract to NP Energy and it's partner, Last Frontier Oil Company
Inc. The milling facility, capable of processing 1200 tons of gold ore per day, will begin
initial activities at a rate of 100 tonnes per day to test the metallurgy and optimize the
mineralization recovery. The site manager is confident that, after start up and break in,
the plant will be producing on a continual basis.

NPEC announced the acquisition of a 20% interest in certain properties in the
Ahdacollo region of Chile on Dec. 1 1996 in joint venture with Last Frontier Oil
Company Inc.
