"There are some new, very predatory germs around. What is that bacteria that eats flesh, for example?"

There are loads of issues that have come up since the last time I read this thread, but the responses--even after a day or two--must seem to refer to ancient history by now. Christine, you need two or three threads for the different topics by now!

However, to this I will respond. I am sure that to many the flesh-eating bacteria exist only in a headline for "The National Enquirer." Would that it were so! A year and a half ago, a close friend's mother, who seemed otherwise healthy, complained of a sudden pain in her leg. Within hours she was hospitalized because the pain had grown so intense. It was flesh-eating bacteria, devouring her at an astonishing rate. Helpless to stop the onslaught, the hospital amputated her leg to try literally to cut them off "at the pass." She would have been in agony without heavy painkillers and sedation. She was dead within a couple of days. This illness is real.
