Why don't you explain to all of us why the President of the United States should be allowed to violate a law that you and I cannot violate?

He shouldn't be allowed to violate a law that you and I cannot violate. The question is, once he has violated it, how do you make the punishment fit the crime? Many Americans simply believe that though Clinton should be punished for his actions, they do not rise to the level of impeachable offenses. The president had an illicit affair, which by definition implies lying and covering up. That's it. Everything else the Clinton haters bring up is purely conjecture and speculation and wishful thinking--Filegate, Travelgate, campaign finance, China etc. Clinton didn't fire his attorney general. He didn't set up a hush fund. Zippergate did not turn into a cancer consuming the presidency and the federal government. There was no CIA ordering the FBI to lay off, etc.

The whole story sounds much more like a particularly bad episode of "Three's Company" than a chapter of "All the President's Men." That's why many people advocate that Congress censure the president and move on to other issues.
