So, my question is directed at #3- is it possible to make an input device that allows 2 people to play a PC game simultaneously, in front of the same monitor? I assume that there are significant hurdles to making one, or one would already exist,

Hmmm... the input devices are there, but that's not the problem. Fundamentaly, the PC sits on a desk in a corner, with a 15" screen. Not exactly the best environment for multiplayer gaming.

A console is hooked up to a centrally located TV set (the smaller of which measures 20", with 30" being typical, with plenty of room, and the potenential for spectators.

Until (and if) the PC becomes a part of the home entertainment system, I don't see how 2 player games (as opposed to network games) can become popular.

Happy new year, everyone... and may all your investments grow manyfold in the coming year (even TDFX).
