To All,
PRI's competes with Daifuku, Shinko and Asyst Automation (formerly Proconics). Daifuku is the largest supplier of automated material handling and transportation systems. Recently (Semicon Japan), PRI and Shinko joined forces to sell/service each others products. If I find the announcement, I'll post it here.
Asyst has the ability to take on PRI if they get a handle on their manufacturing costs. And there is that 'management thing' about Asyst. As a former employee of Asyst, I had the opportunity to see the problems from inside; a small group of very talented engineers and large & inefficient marketing, sales and manufacturing groups. Add to that several layers of managers and you can explain decreasing gross margins and 'manufacturing inefficiencies'.
I made money on PRI on its way up and some more on its way down. PRI is a better run company; but, at theses prices (approaching $60)I consider it a short. Just one thing to watch out though - many analysts still have hold/neutral ratings on PRI. If they decide to upgrade PRI now, it'll go up a few more points!
Asyst is a good long term buy; they have every sector of the fab automation field covered - SMIF pods & robotics, inter/intra-bay transportation and software (thro Asyst Software Inc.) All you need for a good rally is a couple of very visible changes in the management!
