While I agree that Internet commerce will take a lot
of money out of the pockets of traditional distributors
and intermediaries (car dealers, book sellers, brokers),
it won't put it in the pockets of electronic merchants,
since the margins will be paper thin. The big beneficiary is
actally the entire tech sector, since the shift towards
electronic commerce ensures a sustained demand year after year
for new computers, new software, new networking devices,
and increased bandwidth. Lots of people will now be buying
new computers every two years who would not have been
caught dead behind a computer keyboard a few years ago.
