Tenchusatsu, In essence they can put everything inside the slot box? and keep others out, it will be an interesting few years as the battle lines form with socket based at the low end and slot based higher up on the food line. With AMD having it's own fast capable slot derived from the Alpha one has to think they will be able to match intel, especially since the Alpha is faster than Intel products. The key is will AMD be able to make an x86 with all the alpha speed with few enough development tries that it is still current when the bug free version sees daylight. Soon AMD will be able to abandon the 25% less price structure and say same price, 25% better. I can hear the Intel teeth grinding at the thought. Remember how AMD chased intel out of 386 and 486. Yes we know Intel abandoned those when low ASP made their upmarket products better choices, but remember Intel pulled out when it had large foundry space vacant and it could have made them??
Once the fan out of products comes out by summers end we may see Intel with a far lower ASP on all fronts because it will face competition on all fronts, even the risk of being in second place in the speed race.
