Don't expect too huge of a drop on Jan 4 (the first trading day of the new year), at least in the morning.

If there is any coordinated effort by brokerages and market makers to keep the mania going long enough for them to cash out, they will certainly do their best to pump Amazon early in the day and scare shorts into covering. Since most shorts are expecting tax-selling on that day, the best trick would be to make the shorts think that nothing at all will ever stop the runup.

You can bet they'll be selling into the runup that morning. It will probably rank as the biggest head-fake of all time.
