Dan, Okay, forgetting for a moment that there has to be better than placing a live coal on a scared guys lips... :-)
I see what you mean about fear in the sense of reverence. I think God would be able to fill people with the essence of whatever he wanted, and loving comfort would probably be best instead of reveential awe/fear, but we can get past that and move on.
I would like, if it's okay with you, to continue with the theme of punishment vs. love for awhile, since that is something I truly have never understood, and really just "don't get it".
I am not entirely sure that I am expressing myself clearly enough, since I have done a fairly decent job of confusing Alan:-)
In essence, I am trying to ask why god would choose eternal torture in hell for a soul, when with one mere passing thought, he could teach that soul what love and honor is about. He could make that soul a productive "soul" citizen of sorts. he could accomplish anything he wants, so what is the repective benefits of choosing torture over love? Torture is better is only certain scenarios. Retribution, revenge, meanness. In every positive aspect, love serves you better. why would he choose torture?
I hope I am being a little more clear........
