[ ASND & AWRE ]
I only have praise for ASND, and their MAX TNT carrier class WAN access switch. I feel the same about PairGain, but what are these guys getting in a partnership from Aware? The only thing I see is a Semi-Conductor mfr. ADI.
While ASND has a WAN solution, I did not see an (LAN) Ethernet solution, does AWRE have one?
Amati does, Aware should bring something to the feast..
AWRE/ADI will license the Amati's Standard Compliant DMT, they may try to beef their code, their own way to get close to the Overture 8, but right now nothing comes close, "and 2mbps upstream is coming soon, to a standard near you".
It's a tough industry to play catch-up in, I believe Amati holds the Tempo.
Maybe DWMT has a shot as part of the VDSL standard, at this time there is not enough information provided by the T1E1 to know yet.
ORCKIT 2nd on my list to be #2 in DSL.
At SuperCom 96 I heard praise on ORCKIT from more than one source, I heard quite the opposite about AWRE. Further research proved to be the same. But I am just one opinion.
If you have ever read the hype that comes from GlobeSpan on CAP, then you know you better own a Muse Decoder Ring, when wading through the smoke and mirrors. BTW: ADI/Aware did not have develop the first ANSI compliant chipset (based on the DMT approach) IMHO. That is the first piece of incorrect information I found when beginning my DSL research in JAN 96. Should you need conformation, I'll Email it when my mail server is back on-line.
All good DSL players have great potential in this huge industry.
Though before I buy dinner, I would check out the Wine List and the Desert Tray...
