MTV's viewership in target age group rose 25 pct
LOS ANGELES, Dec 28 (Reuters) - MTV Music Television said Monday its viewership for its target 12-to-34 year-old audience rose by 25 percent for the fourth quarter of 1998 and the full year.

MTV, a subsidiary of Viacom Inc.(AMEX:VIA - news), cited Nielsen Media Research information in providing the statistics on the growth in afternoon and prime-time programming ratings.

In addition, MTV said it would finish 1998 as the No. 1 cable television network for the slightly younger 12-24 year old demographic for the year.

Judy McGrath, president of MTV, said that ''1998 was a year of huge growth. We launched a very aggressive programming and promotion strategy in January and it has clearly paid off,'' she said.
