Your analysis is impeccable!
1. If I were Marengi, and I got two consecutive quarters of good (not necessarily great) profits from this perceived dinosaur, what would I expect from a ceo selection?
2. Posponement behaviour is not necessary if #1 occurs.
3. 6 months window is enough to ratify a temporary ceo state as the permanent state, if #1.
4. Again, no incentive for friendly buyout. AND especially not from a hostile buyout attempt, and no one would be stupid enough for that!
My fears are not that increased eearnings per share won't happen for Feb, but what has been traded, sold, given, away so that my scenarios are supported? Did someone sell Novell's soul for his personal gain?
When I hear waiting for a new ceo for 6 months, I either think that the comapny has so much market/product arrogance from the higher-ups, that they really are incapable of understanding what is going on, or they bought into a trial ceo. Both of these are the signs of impending disaster.
