A good rule of thumb is that you need to see at least one solid year of improvement across the board in the semiconductor business before chip producers are willing to begin making commitments to upgrade existing fabrication plants and purchase equipment to ramp up new fabs. Thus, if the chip business does not recover in 1999 as the market is anticipating, the rally in the SOX could prove to be a "fake out break out."

Does this portend of another year of waiting? I have heard others on this thread indicated CYMI as a leading indicator. Comments?
