I have hot swapped monitor plugs in a dual monitor configuration.

Spots also says do it.....I'll give it a shot..

BIOS...so this is where they hide all the good stuff..am I supposed
to be looking around in here?

I spent a couple hours in the BIOS with the manual in my lap of course. BTW the Aopen manual is everything they say it is ...excellent. There's a short paragraph on every single BIOS feature. The only thing I changed was the IDE Hdd parameters to auto-detect. For some reason Jon had them set for user/manual set.

My impression is there's no way to enter the bios when nt is running..... a restart is necessary. Is this correct?

Now..... about my setup. I have observed the following in the BIOS:

1. Primary IDE Master = IBM drive (with Windows 98 installed on C:)

2. Primary IDE Slave =Quantum drive (with Widows NT installed on D:)

The OSs are on the right drives but the master/slave positions need to be switched.
So I'm back to the jumper reset senario. which I will start to look into via Wily's links and a review of yours and Spots posts here.

But here is want is throwing me

As per Spots suggestion I followed the IDE cables from the mb to the drives and compared what I saw to a diagram in the manual. The manual indicates the first IDE1 stop (the IBM drive) to be the slave whereas Bios indicates the slave to be the Quantum. The manual diagram shows the second IDE 1 stop (the Quantum) to be the master wheras BIOS indicates the master is IBM.
The IDE 2 cable first stop as per diagram is slave and is empty which is correct. The IDE 2 second stop as per diagram is the master with CD_ROM which is correct.

What I'm seeing in the box and interpreting with manual diagram is the reverse of what BIOS says. How can that be? The BIOS never lies and I haven't had a joint in years<g>

Gurus commentary most welcomed...

Clarence

PS I have some paging file questions too but I'd like to hold those til later
