yeah. Electric utilities.
I don't spend a nickel to use Yahoo....but...I have increase in ISDN use, heat and lighting bills due to internet usage. People need electricity before they can use the computer or the internet.
Compared to the rest of the market, utility stocks are dirt-cheap and offer a dividend often higher than 30 year treasuries.
REITs are at 75% of building replacement cost, 8% dividend, p/e 8.
In the old days, people only bought stocks instead of bonds when the stock was below book value and offered a decent dividend yield. REITs, utilities, and microcap value (FBRSX, OTCM) are generally selling at 1982 valuations. The little community S&Ls may be excellent beneficiaries of internet banking/brokerage services yet they are selling at book value with 3% dividends.
