The Amazonian region contains "Indian groups" that speak over 180 different languages! The river itself has 5 times the outflow of the Mississippi! Annual rainfall up to 10 feet! Rainy season is from November to June. The River can drop 30 feet or more in some places in the dry season. I guess it is hard to load the ships certain times of the year. The land surrounding the river rises only 300 feet for the first 2,300miles.
