Paul, Re: ""it was a 275GTB, 1967, cherry condition of course. It even had the original sticker with it, only $12K, and they were asking about $35K. If you see a deal like that again, LET ME KNOW !"
No, that was a few (10?) years ago, not allowed to look at Ferraris anymore (until Intel hits $500). Here's a server price comparison on a tpmC basis that may help it get there. Thanks to Rudedog on Compaq. It's a little squished when copied here, easier to see on the Compaq thread (for the uninitiated in looking at benchmarks, least $/tpmC is best):

This is the first TPC Benchmark result to be run on this system. The test configuration consisted of four clustered SMP nodes each with four 400MHz Pentium II Xeon processors and 3.25GB of memory. Today's result used the ORACLE8 v8.05 database manager with Oracle Parallel Server (OPS) options. It is interesting to note that the total cost of the server hardware (excluding clients) is $918,420. Of this amount only $176,640 is for the server hardware with the bulk of the cost coming from the storage options. Today's result uses a total of 3,484GB of storage which is configured using 32 fibre channel storage enclosures & array controllers populated with 384 x 9.1GB SCSI-3 10K RPM disk drives. The cost of these storage options is in excess of $660,000. With a Price/Performance ($/tpmC) of $49.88 today's result sets a new record for TPC-C Price/Performance on a clustered configuration. All components of today's result are available now.
