i would imagine that people savvy enough to buy from a sharper image and skymall are savvy enough to buy through the net....i very nice fit....one that may not apply to Spiegels...which one of the most poorly run companies i have seen...unfocused and bledding like a stuck pig.
True. OTOH, if the internet does offer efficiencies, maybe the way to stop the bleeding is to go after net sales rather than catalog.
i think we need to think more than "all catalog companies are going oto the roof"...it is too simplistic and probably not accurate...but, thise companies that have teh types of customers that would buy through the PCs, may very well skyrocket.
It is a combination of the right merchandise, the right customer base, and the right company. SKYM has all three, and DMRK has the first two and could easily become the third. Spiegel may be short on the last two, although again this could change.
while researching DMRK, this was one of my considerations- among many others. i believe that the types pf products DMRK offers attracts the types of people that would purchase from the web. of course, ihave not seen a catalog in 2 years..but, their web site was good enough for me.
I always enjoyed looking through their catalogs, and even though I am not a catalog buyer (have recently become an internet buyer, though), I know people who were very loyal to their product line. |
