My impression is there's no way to enter the bios when nt is running..... a restart is necessary. Is this correct? Correct. You can use the shutdown/restart option. You do not have to do a cold boot. Now..... about my setup. I have observed the following in the BIOS: 1. Primary IDE Master = IBM drive (with Windows 98 installed on C:) 2. Primary IDE Slave =Quantum drive (with Widows NT installed on D:) I don't know how you can confirm which OS is on which drive in the bios alone. To confirm the above ...The machine boots NT..correct? If the machine boots NT and the bios is set to boot D then NT is on the "D" drive (bios terminology for primary slave). The OSs are on the right drives but the master/slave positions need to be switched. Agreed if you confirm that NT is booting and the bios is set to boot D and the drive specs in the bios match Quantum to slave position. As per Spots suggestion I followed the IDE cables from the mb to the drives This suggestion was to determine if the drive(s) were on IDE1 and or IDE2. The manual indicates the first IDE1 stop (the IBM drive) to be the slave whereas Bios indicates the slave to be the Quantum. To my knowledge the drive position on the cable means nothing. Master and slave are determined by jumper settings..not by position along the cable. In your system..to boot NT as master you will have to 1. Power down the machine. 2. Rejumper the slave NT Quantum drive to master 3. Rejumper the master IBM Win98 drive to slave 4. Turn on and enter bios 5. Confirm that the bios has autodetected the drive parameters correctly..correct if necessary. 6. Change the boot to C 7. Save changes in bios and exit..the machine will POST and boot NT master.
