Yes, and I cant recall any of those government projects resulting in private companies that held monopolies on any particular section of industry. The best they come are quasi-private companies, such as the US Postal service or Amtrak. The local utilities have monopolies, but certainly not valuations anywhere near Amazon's. All the rest of your examples point to markets in which nobody is able to control the medium.
