>>I've been with Schwab for almost 15 years. They are slow, they are expensive, their web site is cumbersome, but- I like to walk into their offices if I have a problem<<

That's exactly why I keep one account with Schwab - they provide a lot of service and convenience. But if you trade by phone, they are much too expensive, as you state.

I became disgusted with Schwab last summer, but quickly came back to them because of the conveniences such as a linked checking account, and the fact that they have an office 10 minutes down the road from where I live. But I seldom use them for day-trading. For day or short-term trading you just about have to use a system like Realtick, the basis for the MBTrading and ABWatley systems.

Is it possible for you to trade thru e-schwab from work? While Schwab's net commissions are relatively high they are not a huge impediment if you don't trade too much.

Hope this helps a bit.
