A more complete description of the article I mentioned.

In the January 1997 Geotimes - News and Trends in the Geosciences - magazine... Article called "Anatomy of a Mine: The Discovery and Development of Grasberg." Said to be one of the century's most important mineral discoveries. Until IPM@AZ I understand - from the IPM positive posters. Read once where it is the nature of the future to be unsafe and unsure. Nuf said about that....

A great story article about the discovery and development of Grasberg. It is the first of three to run this year. This is about the discovery and development, 2nd will be about the environmental and social issues with the mine development, 3rd will examine a model program for industry-academic research collaboration and uses Grasberg as a "real world" laboratory. Grasberg is a giant copper mine with associated gold and silver in west New Guinea. This is not an investment idea or analysis but a easy to read story of just how much imagination, capital, and effort may be required to get the results of successful prospecting to market. Folks have asked about mining publications in the past other places. IMO good reading for those [getting] involved in investing in the mining business. I will never again see a penny or joint of copper pipe or any thing else made of copper (or any metal) without thinking about this story. I'm sure there are others...

Geotimes is published by the American Geological Institute. I'm aware of it because of membership in AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) and receive it by mail. It is an easy to read earth science magazine. I do not know how to get it here. They show <http://www.agiweb.org/agi/geotimes.html>. Also E-mail <geotimes@agiweb.org>. Further words say single copies available for $4.00. Have not tried to use the sites. Thought maybe a "near by" college would have a copy. I'll try to see if the text is available to retrieve somehow. Nothing is easy but then ya'll know that!! Maybe a break while waiting on the news here.
