Nokia buys Canadian Internet
Protocol telephony co

HELSINKI, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Finnish telecom equipment
maker Nokia (NYSE:NOKa - news) said on Friday it had
signed a deal to take over Canadian Internet Protocol telephony company Vienna Systems for about $90 million.

Nokia bought 30 percent of Vienna Systems from Newbridge (Toronto:NCC.TO - news) and the
rest from a number of venture capitalists, private
investors and other minor shareholders, a spokeswoman said.

''A recognised leader in the global IP telephony market, Vienna Systems designs and manufactures
hardware and software products for the distribution of voice, fax and video communication over IP
networks, including Intranets and the public
Internet,'' Nokia said in a statement.

Its customers range from telecom service providers
to multisite medium and large enterprises, it added.

No details on Vienna's sales or profits were available.

Newbridge and Nokia also agreed to collaborate in sales,
marketing and product development to maintain Newbridge's
role as a major distributor of Vienna products.
