I wanted to spark some new discussion on this board.

Miniaturization is the direction SNDK is heading. PCMCIA to CF to MMC. The next natural step in the progression is smart cards (not to be confused with SmartMedia). It would seem to me that flash memory will be an essential ingredient in a smart card. Thus a microchip and a large memory packet is all that is required. I am curious about the barriers to entry in this market. It seems that everyone and his brother would be capable of making a smart card. The memory will undoubtedly be some form of flash memory. Here is a link I found...

regarding one of SNDK's competitors.

Also, I would like to hear some discussion about licensing fees to date. Please don't tell me that nobody has any ideas on this. Any idea who is paying and what for...Hitachi? Toshiba? Samsung? Intel?
