Re vaccinations:

I sent excerpts of some of the 'vaccinations' posts to a friend and I thought his response was worth sharing with you all.

Oh yes, I remember the shots for my trip to Zaire.

Yellow Fever is a single shot good for ten years. Commonly gives people flu-like symptoms (headache & fatigue) for a week.

Cholera is usually given in two shots, spaced a week apart and is good for only six months.

Smallpox is pretty much wiped-out world-wide so it's contra-indicated for most people. If you're worried enough to get it, it's good for three years after a successful vaccination. Us old folks remember that this is the one where they inspect the shot area to determine if it worked.

Typhoid is another fun one. I got two shots spaced three months apart. Not sure how long the shots are good for ... probably not very long.

And yes, tetanus shots are important and can be repeated as needed.

Of course, if you're prepared properly for Y2k, you'll have safe water (the main infection route for cholera, typhoid and many other diseases) and minimal contact with strangers. Hint: Burn the bodies.

I almost forgot to mention:
All of the shots are generally available at low cost from your local County Health Department with minimal advance-notice appointment. It will cost more and take more notice with your own doctor.
