Pat :-) Talked with Ron Carlini yest. PM.
Agree with you, an interesting and well informed guy.
I had heard that a small private firm is in line to supply a key circuit board for the Amati Access Concentrator. My int. was to see if I could learn the ident. of the firm because I had also heard that the firm is to go pub. in Feb.
My motivation was that the firm might be an attractive speculation, 1. if it exists and 2. the fundamentals look good.
Not surpisingly, Ron was circumspect on the entire question including whether they were using an outsource.
If you have any info. or anyone else lurking knows anything about this, I would appreciate the input.
You may have seen my post that GTE will be rolling out an adsl service in early Q2. Since the Amati modem will not be avail. in quant. until Q3, it appears Amati will not be included in any announcement by GTE, at least initially. My source at GTE could not reveal who their supplier will be other than it would not be AMTX. I am surmising that it will be WSTL, therefore, CAP.
The World Comm roll out in Jackson MS must be CAP, right?
One gets the sense that the telcos are under a lot of pressure to do something fast to keep the hounds from chewing up their heels. If that means starting out with CAP and transitioning to DMT in the 2nd 1/2, it might make sense to them, even if they know its the 2nd choice in terms of technology.
One thing is certain, the telcos will not get themselves locked into a situation where they have only one supplier. So, DMT ADSL must be avail. from at least two sig. sources b4 the telcos will commit large scale. The same could be said for CAP. I have not followed CAP closely, does the two sig. supplier requirement now exist for this solution?
I bght. a little WSTL at $27 and $22 as a hedge against a larger pos. in AMTX. Obviously we are in the same boat on this mistake.
Would really like to have my crystal ball polished up on the timing of another comittment on AMTX. I like what I see and hear from them. In spite of their size, they are playing it cool in a big stakes game right now. Obviously, they do not have a problem with fragile egos.
Gotta go, going to see the usual brawl between the Pacers and the Knicks 2nite. Wonder if either or both centers will be in the game after Q1.
