hey tony...

ed's TA posts regarding the long term chart, the january
effect, and the cessation of tax selling...as well as the
firming of price on increased volume all combine to suggest
we may be seeing the infancy of a trend here.

consider also that since october 2, 1998, ampex has
had a P/E of 3.00, %25 less than the industry.

the heard on the street mention on the 29th...

<<Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Co. awards a trophy to the institutional client with the best January-bounce candidate. Last year, a hedge fund won with its pick, Ionica, a provider of fixed-telephone services. Now, the stock is being delisted by Nasdaq. This year, the same client is picking Ampex Corp.>>

while not in and of itself the reason perhaps for today's large interest leads me to wonder if this client might not have some inkling of actual
plans afoot.

the trading of the last few days would imply someone, beyond this
board, anyway...<g>, or somefew, might be banking on some kind
of movement to occur, perhaps sooner than later .

the other possibility, tony....is just that we have been so downtrodden
for so long, the market has seen fit to give us bit of a kick. i would say
the near term volume will be very telling.
