Maybe The EUROS are Using Metric.:-)

Just kidding.....buuttttt...your calculation would appear correct in that it would add up to the US holding 8,769 tons. The widely used figure I believe to be 8000 tons.At 300 USD per oz. that would only equate to 1025 tons.

This should be interesting when they reveal the exact figures sometime soon.I believe it slipped out that the EUROS would value their gold at market, but when Germany tried to pull that one last year,it was shot down.So all bets are off till we get some solid figures and confirmations. Thus we see this gold market with no real direction,as most appear confused,at best,as to what the @#$% they are actually doing and will do with surpluses, if any.Remember the Gold coin bit awhile back as well.No word since then on this either.Go figure.

Regarding the MIT article......very interesting reading.Seems it is all according to whom or what institution you want to read these days, they all have different views of the impact and time frame in which these issues will affect the markets .I am not anticipating a " big bang " scenario for the USD,but the clarification(s) regarding the Gold issues may be noticeable if they issue clear statements...for once in their miserable lives.Christ....even the Aussie Gov't appear to speculating openly on this one.Makes one wonder what the REAL program is here that the owners of gold mining companies are expected to figure out.Maybe the Aussie Gov't themselves are short a few hundred tons.

Anywho.....as always...we shall see in the fullness of time.

Happy New Year Banco$ And All EURO-LOGISTS.
