BMFM,
Where are you staying? $199 a night is pretty steep for most hotels in Las Vegas. I should know. Vegas is like a second home for me.
If you don't mind being off the Strip, stay at The Rio Suites. It's the best kept secret in Las Vegas. It's located immediately to the rear of Caesar's Palace, but you'll need to take a taxi (or the free hotel shuttle) to get to popular spots on the Strip. A taxi or a bus can you downtown from there.
The Mirage, Treasure Island (not as high), Caesar's, Bally's, MGM, Las Vegas Hilton, Golden Nugget and Bellagio are among the most expensive. Lesser expensive but very acceptable are places like Excalibur, Luxor (a tad on the high side), Riveria and Flamingo Hilton. The cheapies might include Circus Circus, Tropicana, most downtown hotels, any off strip hotels (such as Palace Station, Texas Station, Gold Coast etcetera), Stardust and a few others.
