One Person's Story
Alexine Clement Jackson was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 1986, around her 50th birthday. She underwent a modified radical mastectomy and received chemotherapy and radiation treatments to prevent recurrence. Medicine counteracted the side effects of chemotherapy. To further combat the cancer, Alexine has been taking hormonal therapy medicine ever since. "Although my doctor explained that the medicine may not be necessary after five years, I've been unwilling to give it up," says Alexine. As a 10-year cancer survivor, her busy life proves that cancer can be overcome. Alexine currently serves as the National President of the YWCA and as Chairman of the Board of TMI, Inc., a medical technology company
