..."I'll hear no more objections!", said Zonkie's mother. "You'll spend the night with us, then tomorrow morning we'll have a nice breakfast. We can all tell what exciting adventures we had today. Zonkie can fill us in on the doings at the choir practice. I do so enjoy these social activities."

Zonkie rolled his eyes, wondering what kind of story he could come up with that would be believable.

As they arrived at the house, Muffy squeezed Zonkie one last time to let him know she hadn't forgotten him. It was firmly obvious to Muffy that Zonkie hadn't forgotten her!.

Zonkie's mother exited the car and literally bounced up the driveway to the front door, motioning Muffy and Zonkie to follow. Zonkie came along, but appeared to be having trouble walking. "Poor dear, did you trip on something and hurt yourself tonight?", asked mother.

"It's OK, I'll be all right in a little bit", said Zonkie.

As they all entered the front door of the house, Muffy caught a glimpse of the presents under the Christmas tree. "How quaint", she thought. "So this is what family life is like? This is Americana." How she longed for a normal life.

Zonkie limped off to the bathroom.

Mother grabbed Muffy by the hand, and pulled her towards the den. "Come on in here and meet my husband", she said. "He can keep you company while I fix us all a snack. Do you like cocoa? I have some nice chocolate chip cookies I baked this afternoon."
